Q. Do I need to keep records of training?

A. In the unfortunate event of an accident or dangerous occurrence, an employer will need to be able to provide credible evidence that the training responsibilities have been discharged.

This can be done easily where accredited instructors have carried out training and an individual certificate has been issued. It is always prudent for the employer to keep a copy of any such certificates, in case the originals are mislaid.

For less formal training, the employer should keep a record of the syllabus used and signatures from everyone trained, to indicate at the very least that the training was given, and the training material was provided.
